This spring service replaces power raking since we believe it is more beneficial to lawns and prevents root system damage. Dethatching tines are attached to the front of our mowers and we lower the cutting blade in order to do a thorough job of cleaning up turf areas. This mechanical operation not only improves turf appearance by removing matted grass and leaves but also combs out excessive thatch so moisture and nutrients can effectively penetrate the turf. We start providing this service in spring when the weather allows through until the end of April
Fertilizer in early Spring will give the lawn a great start. This granular application has all the essential nutrients and plenty of slow release to help build the healthy roots needed when the stresses of summer heat arrive.
This procedure mechanically removes plugs of thatch and earth from the turf. Our clay based soils are particularily prone to compaction. When the soil under a lawn gets hard, it cannot absorb the nutrients it needs to survive. An aeration will also help a lawn be more drought resistant during the hot and dry months of summer. Aeration is the best way to optimize the use of water and fertilizer to keep your lawn looking like a soft green carpet. Aeration can be done any time during the growing season (from spring through fall).
Lawns are cut once per week at a different angle on a four week rotation. We recommend a cutting height of at least 2 1/2 inches so the grass leaves can gather sunlight and also shade the roots and soil for moisture retention. Edges are trimmed with a string trimmer on a weekly basis. We bag clippings and deposit them on a composting site for future use as nutrient and fibre rich soil.
Lawns are cut/mulched once per week at a different angle on a four week rotation. Edges are trimmed with a string trimmer on a weekly basis. Grasscycling is the natural recycling of grass by leaving clippings on the lawn when mowing. Grass clippings will quickly decompose, returning valuable nutrients to the soil.
Fertilizer in May and June will sustain the turf as it goes through its heaviest growth period of the season. Newly emerged weeds are treated at this time. Slow release nutrients will continue to build healthy roots.
HelpUsHelpThem.ca
Lawn Master is a proud corporate sponsor of the various HelpUsHelpThem.ca projects. This past winter, we supported participants cycling from Costa Rica to Panama to fund a Compassion Survival program operating in Los Cocos, Nicaragua. We sponsored the very successful Cycling Andes to Amazon for IJM' project in November of 2016. Thirty five cyclists, including Lawn Master co-owner Dennis Dick, biked over 250 km in Ecuador with a purpose of raising funds for International Justice Mission's work to protect children in Bolivia from sexual violence. The project raised over $100,000. In January, 2015, Lawn Master sponsored the 'Cycling Cuba For MEMO' project which raised nearly $60,000 for the transfer of redundant medical equipment from Canadian hospitals to those in Cuba. In March of 2014, Dennis participated in the 'Hiking For Compassion - Inca Trail to Machu Picchu' trip to promote awareness of child sponsorship opportunities and in December, 2012, Lawn Master matched customer donations and helped raise over $40,000 for Compassion Canada's Education Response Fund for projects in Central America.
